BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper FAQs

PRODUCT FEATURES

Why is the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper ideal for nursing mums?

  • The BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper supports nursing mums in an important way:

Its swivel design and retractable wall feature make it easy for mum to reach in and lift baby while in bed (vs. stationary and attached bassinets, which often necessitate mum getting out of bed to lift baby). After nursing, it also allows mum to return baby to their separate sleep area without requiring mum to get out of bed.

Why is the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper ideal for any mum, but especially mums after a C-section?

  • Approximately one-third of all mums have a Cesarean Section birth. Recovery from this surgery can make any movement painful and difficult – including lifting baby, or having to get in and out of bed to take care of baby. Unlike stationary and attached bassinets, the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper’s 360° range of motion allows mum to tend to many of her baby’s needs without having to get out of bed. And when mum does have to get in or out of bed, the swivel design allows mum to gently reposition it to accommodate her – so getting in or out of bed can be done easily and with minimal discomfort.

Why is it easier for mums to get in and out of bed with the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper?

  • Stationary or attached bassinets are hard to work around. When positioned right next or attached to the bed, mums often have to get in or out of bed by crawling around them. This can be hard to do, inconvenient, and even painful (especially for mums who have had a C-section birth). The BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper makes getting in and out of bed easy, convenient and comfortable. Unlike traditional or attached bassinets, its 360° range of motion allows mum to gently move the baby’s sleep area aside, so she can rise or sit down with ease.

How does the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper enhance bonding with baby?

  • With the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper, mum and dad can safely sleep close to their baby – closer than with any other bassinet or co-sleeper. This close proximity allows to more easily reach in and soothe baby; the retractable wall makes it easier to pick up baby, and the mesh sides mean that you can better see your little one. All this culminates in a closer, more intimate sleeping relationship between mums and dads and baby while ensuring that baby is still sleeping safe and sound in their own, separate sleep area.

What are all the ways the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper can move?

  • No other infant sleeper on the market moves like the BassiNest® swivel sleeper. Its dual-swivel design rotates a full 360° from two distinct pivot points, allowing mum and dad to position baby just where they can best monitor the little. The four-point, tip-proof base is universally adjustable to accommodate bed heights from 60 – 86 cm, and the patented retractable sidewall feature moves down, then returns automatically to allow mom and dad easy access to the little one.

How does the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper’s lowering bedside wall work?

  • The BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper’s patented, retractable sidewall lowers easily when mum or dad reaches in to lift or soothe baby. Its auto-return safety feature automatically returns the sidewall to its original, upright position when the pressure is removed, ensuring that baby is always sleeping safely.

Can the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper be used on either side of the bed?

  • Yes, the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper’s 360° range of motion means that it can be positioned and used on either side of an adult bed.

Can it be used with all kinds of adult beds?

  • The BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper’s low-profile, four-point base is designed to accommodate virtually all bed heights and constructions, with the exception of platform beds. It can be used with beds from 60 - 86 cm in height with only 5 cm clearance from the floor required.

Can it be used on bare or carpeted floors?

  • Yes, the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper can be used on bare or carpeted floors. If using with an area rug, please ensure that all four legs are placed either on or off the rug for maximum stability.

What special features come with the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper?

  • The BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper Premiere comes with nightlight, floorlight, soothing sounds and two levels of vibration. Each features an automatic shutoff after 30 minutes of use, and the volume of the sound features do not exceed 65dBA.

Is the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper easy to move from room to room?

  • While the BassiNest® swivel sleeper is easy to move, it is not designed to be a portable infant sleeper.

Is there an incline feature on the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper?

  • No. Inclining a baby is potentially dangerous and not recommended as the baby can tend to slide towards the foot of the inclined sleep surface. Studies show limited benefit of inclining a baby to treat colic or reflux.

Can the bed portion be removed from BassiNest® base and used without it?

  • The Essentia & Premiere models should not be used without the base.

Is the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper easily portable so that I can use it in other rooms of my home?

  • The BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper can be moved to another room. The “cradle” disconnects easily from the base. So the base and cradle can be moved in two pieces. Please note that the “cradle” of the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper should never be used alone without the base.

Can I use the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper for my twins?

  • To ensure your children’s safety, the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper should not be used for more than one infant at a time.

Can I use a mattress other than the one provided with the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper?

  • The unique, hourglass-shape of the BassiNest® mattress is designed to fit optimally into the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper. It is not recommended to use any mattress other than the one provided, as doing so could create a poor fit and result in an unsafe sleep environment for the baby.

Does the BassiNest® swivel sleeper come with a fitted sheet? Can I buy more?

  • Yes, the BassiNest swivel sleeper comes with a custom fitted sheet. You can purchase additional fitted sheets on here.

How can I completely remove any adhesive residue left from decals or stickers on the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper fabric?

  • If you find there is residue left on the fabric after you’ve removed all stickers, we recommend that you use a piece of packing tape and rub it (sticky side down) over the area of the fabric with excess residue. This should remove any excess adhesive.

The BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper is not staying at the desired height. What can I do to keep it from moving down?

  • A small amount of lubricant is used during assembly. There may be a slight residue remaining on the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper stand/tower. Please try using a cloth and a cleaner like Windex to wipe any remaining lubricant on the tower. (Please do not use any wipe or cleaner containing Aloe or moisturizer, however). Wipe the tower with the towel to clean excess lubricant. It might take a second round of wiping after reducing the height and putting it back up again, but this should resolve the issue.

Product Safety

How does the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper promote safe sleep?

  • The American Academy of Pediatrics and safe sleep experts advise mums that, to reduce the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) or accidental suffocation, infants under 12 months of age should room share, but should always sleep in their own, separate sleep area. These recommendations are warranted: According to the US CDC (Centers for Disease Control), accidental suffocation accounts for nearly 1,000 infant deaths every year. In addition, according to the American Journal of Public Health, 64% of sudden unexplained infant deaths occurred when the babies were sharing a sleep surface with someone else.

The BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper’s unique, moveable baby bassinet allows parents to bring the baby’s sleep area into their bed and position it at eye level, as close to them as they wants, without the risks posed by bed-sharing. The BassiNest® allows for the close sleeping and optimal visibility of baby that many parents desire, yet keeps baby sleeping safely in their own separate space.

Is the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper safe?

  • Yes, theBassiNest® Swivel Sleeper is completely safe. It has been rigorously tested and is recommended for babies up to five months of age or 9.1 kg. The sidewall panels are constructed of mesh fabric for maximum visibility and breathability.

What safety standards does this meet?

  • BassiNest® is independently tested to meet and/or exceed all British Standard children’s furniture – cots safety requirement.

I’m noticing a slight tilt to the BassiNest when my baby is in it. Is this normal?

  • The HALO® BassiNest® is different from all other traditional, stationary bassinets on the market. Because it swivels 360° and rotates, there is sometimes a slight tilt. Some people interpret this tilt as problematic, but it is well within the standards of accepted angles for these types of products. In addition, the front sidewall that lowers is slightly shorter than the back sidewall, which can create the perception of additional tilt. Rest assured that the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper meets all applicable EU, CPSC, ASTM and Health Canada requirements. It carries the Lulliby Trust and the US JPMA (Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association) certification seal. The BassiNest has met and exceeded all regulatory testing, and we actually submit to additional testing beyond what is required for Bassinets and co-sleepers.

How can I minimize tilt I’m seeing with BassiNest®?

  • To minimize the perception of tilt, you can try moving the BassiNest® to its lowest height setting and placing the sleep surface in the non-swiveled out position. This will help to minimise slight tilt. Again, while the BassiNest® is still completely safe in the highest position and when swiveled out, perception of tilt may be greater since there is naturally more of an angle.

My baby moved while sleeping and ended up near to the mesh walls. Should I be concerned?

  • The mesh walls are completely safe and in fact, they help provide a breathable sleep area for your baby. The mesh provides maximum airflow to the sleep surface. If your baby moves near the mesh walls, there is no need to be concerned. They are as safe near the mesh walls as they are in any part of the sleep surface.

My baby moved while sleeping and ended up laying vertically vs. horizontally. Is this okay?

  • The HALO BassiNest® is safe for babies no matter what position they are sleeping in, vertically or horizontally; however, if your baby is approaching 5 months and is an active sleeper, it may be time to transition them out of the BassiNest® and into a cot or other safe sleep environment. When babies start to move around more regularly during sleep, they are usually approaching the age and/or weight capacity of the BassiNest® (9.1 kg and 5 months).

What age and size of baby can use the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper?

  • The BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper is recommended for babies up to five months of age or 9.1 kg.. Discontinue use of this product when the child is showing signs of being able to pull up, rollover, push up or sit up unassisted, or is able to move out of the security of the walled sleep area.

What is it made from?

Are any flame retardants used in the making of the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper? Is it Phthalate and BPA-free?

  • The polyurethane foam mattress pad and fabrics used in the BassiNest® Swivel Sleeper do not contain any toxic flame retardants.
